The High Season for RV travel in the US begins at the start of June and continues through to the first week of September. During this time, RVs sell out very quickly so it is best to book at least 6 months in advance for travel within this period.
The Shoulder Season occurs from the second week of September, through to the end of May. There is much better availability during these times, but it is still advised to book early.
Ways to Save
The easiest way to save on your RV rental is to travel within the Shoulder Season. You can Save up to 50% on the cost of your rental simply by traveling outside of the High Season period.
Book your RV rental as early as possible to secure your vehicle of choice. The earlier you book, the less chance you will have to settle for an alternative, or worse, miss out.
Booking early may also make you eligible for Early Bird Specials. These specials apply when you book a certain period in advance, and can save you money on the cost of your rental.
Pre-paid mileage saves you money. By simply entering the number of miles you expect to travel you can get a true comparison across all the suppliers. If you don't pre-purchase miles you will be charged 35-40c per mile at the branch on your return.
One-way RV rentals give vacationers the freedom to travel long distances, without having to double back. Most RV rental companies offer one-way rentals, however a fee generally applies.
Save money on one-way fees and travel from the East Coast to the West Coast (i.e. New York to Los Angeles). This is the least expensive way to travel across the United States as the one-way fee is generally less if you travel in this direction.
