Conditions for RV Rental USA
Valid for travel from 1st February 2019
Summary of Rental Conditions
Summary of Terms and Conditions that form part of Travellers AutoBarn full Rental Agreement. Rates quoted are in US dollars.
Once the Rental Agreement is signed at the depot, the Renter is responsible for the vehicle and any or all damage or loss Renter or others cause to the vehicle to the extent of the liability fee.
Branch Opening Hours
There are three depots Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

Vehicle Pick Up and Drop Off
Vehicle pick up times are between 10am and 4pm
Vehicle Drop off times are between 9am and 3pm
No refunds will be granted for shortened rentals. There are no refunds for late pick up or early return of vehicles.
Rates are calculated as per night. Where a rental crosses into another season, the rate will split to allow for the new season rate.
Payment must be made in US dollars by Credit or Debit card; MasterCard or Visa. Note: A credit card is required for an imprint to the amount of the liability fee.
Cancellations & Amendments
In the case of canceling your reservation
- 29 Days + from pick up, the deposit is Non Refundable.
- 8-28 Days from pick up, the deposit is Non Refundable. In addition a $200 fee will be charged
- 1-7 Days from pick up, the deposit is Non Refundable. In addition 50% of the rental fee will be charged
- Day of pick up or no-show, 100% of the rental fee will be charged a No Show is considered as a cancellation.
Amendments are charged at a rate of $50 per change. This applies but is not limited to changing the client name, vehicle type, reducing the number of rental days, changing the pickup dates or locations.
It is possible to extend a rental without incurring a fee subject to availability. It is possible to shorten a rental within 21 Days of pick up ($50 fee applies). Shortening a rental will be quoted as a new rental and will be calculated at the current rate with any current specials not applicable.
Please note that amendments may result in the daily rental rate to be recalculated at the rate applicable on the date of the amendment for the entire rental period.

Administration Fees / Taxes

Exchange Rate / Currency Variations
All credit card transactions are conducted in US Dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. We do not accept any liability for variances up or down. Refunds by credit card can take up to 15 working days depending on the renters Financial Institution.
Any balance due for Vancouver bookings will be paid in CAD at the branch at the spot exchange rate at the time.
The minimum rental period is 5 Days. There is no maximum rental period.
One Way rentals incur a higher minimum rental period subject to change.
One Way Rentals
One way rentals are available between all branches subject to minimum rental periods. A one way rental fee applies.
Drivers License and Minimum Age
All drivers must hold a valid drivers license for the entire rental period, plus have a major credit card. Only drivers specified on the contract are allowed to drive Travellers Autobarn vehicles. All specified drivers with their licenses must be present at time of vehicle pick up. If the drivers license is not in the English language then an International Drivers Permit (IDP) is also recommended. An accredited English translation will be accepted in lieu of an International Drivers Permit.
Drivers must be 21 years of age or over. Proof of age must be ascertained by a valid drivers license.
Extra drivers are $3/day (capped at 25 days $75)
Additional to the rental price is a $45 fee, this is for all cooking and eating utensils, all bedding (duvets/comforter, sheets and pillows) & picnic chairs.

Rates include unlimited mileage
Vehicles may only be driven on paved roads or well-maintained access roads less than 500 yards long to recognised campgrounds and parking areas. Travel on unpaved roads voids any liability reduction options and insurance coverage under clause 25 of this Agreement and renders the Hirer liable in accordance with clause 27 of the Agreement for the total cost of Damage that is caused or contributed to by reason of travelling, or having travelled, on unpaved roads
- Travellers Autobarn reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict Vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.
- All Travellers Autobarn vehicles are strictly prohibited from travelling to Mexico, there is no insurance coverage in Mexico
- Vehicles are not permitted in Death Valley between May 1st and September 30th
- Vehicles are not permitted at Burning Man.
- Unauthorized travel voids any liability reduction options and insurance coverage provided and renders the Hirer liable. The Hirer will also be responsible for all costs associated with the rental, including servicing, breakdown and recovery as well as loss of security bond.
Vehicles are not permitted at Burning Man.
If you, the Hirer, wish to extend the rental whilst the Vehicle is on hire, you must first obtain written authorisation from Travellers Autobarn’s Central Reservations. A casual conversation on the topic with a Travellers Autobarn staff branch member does not constitute authorisation. Your requested extension is not authorised until it is expressly approved and confirmed in writing, and you have nominated a specific date and the extension has been paid in full. Calling a day or two before you are due to drop off and requesting an extension may result in your request being rejected owing to future bookings of your Vehicle. Please communicate all extension requests by calling Central Reservations on the 1800 469 4790 Customer Assistance Line at the earliest possible opportunity as all requests are subject to availability.
Mechanical Repairs & Accidents
Travellers Autobarn Vehicles are maintained and serviced to a high standard, however this does not prevent the occasional mechanical malfunction. Minor repairs of a mechanical nature costing less than $100 may be affected without our authorisation and will be reimbursed upon completion of the rental if tax invoices are produced.
If you experience any problems, even minor, you must ring 1800 469 4790 Customer Assistance Line for further assistance and advice. For amounts over $100, Travellers Autobarn must be informed and our approval must be sought and obtained before undertaking repairs. We will usually approve repairs provided the Hirer was not directly responsible for the damage but reserve the right to approve or decline repairs on a case by case basis. Tax invoices must be submitted, or the claim will not be paid.
If the Vehicle is not able to be driven as a result of the defect or breakdown, Travellers Autobarn’s liability is limited to refunding You the hire fees (excluding any liability option reduction amount) for the time that the Vehicle was actually in repair or providing a replacement vehicle subject to availability. Travellers Autobarn may grant an extension to the rental period in lieu of providing a refund. Travellers Autobarn will not be responsible for the costs of alternative accommodation, travel costs (including travelling to the location named by Travellers Autobarn to collect any replacement vehicle), or food or any other cost or expense resulting from the breakdown, accident or repair of the Vehicle.
You acknowledge that if you do have an issue with your Vehicle, that when (Friday afternoons to Monday mornings & Public Holidays) and where (middle of nowhere?) you might have an issue are complicating factors that you have considered prior to choosing to rent a motor vehicle and you accept any delays caused that may arise from the lack of available parts or services and release Travellers Autobarn from any claims that may arise due to the timing or location of the issue. It is for this reason we urge all Hirers to be aware of what day of the week it is and be alert to any issues that may arise and have any issues looked at before the issue of timing and location becoming complicating factors.
Our responsibility to provide a rental extension or refund of hire fees is conditional on any problems associated with the Vehicle, including equipment failure, being reported to Travellers Autobarn as soon as possible and within 24hrs in order to give Travellers Autobarn the opportunity to rectify the problem.
Malfunctions of stereo systems, cabin lights, air-conditioning, fridges, microwaves, sink water pumps etc., are not considered mechanical breakdowns and downtime will not be paid.
The Hirer is responsible to check, at least daily, and to maintain all fluid levels and immediately to rectify and report to Travellers Autobarn by calling the 1800 469 4790 Customer Assistance Line any defect of which you become aware, however slight. Topping up a Vehicle that is losing cooling liquid somehow is not rectifying the problem. Rectification means a fit and proper diagnosis and repair. Travellers Autobarn cannot stress enough your responsibility in this regard. Continued operation of the Vehicle after a defect has occurred may lead to serious consequential damage to the engine voids any liability reduction options and insurance coverage provided
The Hirer is responsible to check, at least daily the condition of the Vehicles tires including but not limited to tread depth, uneven wear and any visible damage, and must immediately report to Travellers Autobarn by calling the 1800 469 4790 Customer Assistance Line any defect of which you become aware of. Travellers Autobarn cannot stress enough your responsibility in this regard. Continued operation of the Vehicle after a defect has occurred may lead to serious injury or consequential damage to the Vehicle voids any liability reduction options and insurance coverage provided
We cannot stress enough the risks of continued driving if your car begins to overheat, or if it has a known cooling system problem of any kind. If your temperature gauge moves in a direction that is a departure from normal, stop immediately, investigate and call Travellers Autobarn on 1800 469 4790 Customer Assistance Line. Do NOT wait for it to cool and drive again as you may cause further catastrophic damage to your engine, for which you WILL be liable. Driving with an inoperative or malfunctioning temperature gauge may lead to consequential damage to the Vehicle voids any liability reduction options and insurance coverage provided
The highest level of Travel Insurance is strongly recommended to the renter.
Insurance is not included in the cost of the rental. The hirer is responsible for any damage caused to the Travellers Autobarn Campervan.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
$10 USD Security bond $0
Full coverage of the campervan. Collision Damage Waivers (CDW) means you are not responsible for damage to the campervan in the case of a collision (unless driven against the Terms & Conditions). CDW further includes replacement of two tyres and one front windscreen. A $0 security bond applies. Exclusions apply.
Supplementary Liability Insurance (SLI)
$12.25 USD Security bond $1500
Supplementary liability insurance (SLI). Provides $1 million medical & $350 000 property third party liability cover. Exclusions apply.
The renter is fully liable for any damage to the Travellers Autobarn campervan or third party property if:
- The terms of the rental contract are breached.
- If the driver is does not hold an appropriate drivers license.
- Damage to the campervan is caused by careless, wilful or reckless driving.
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Driving on unsealed or restricted roads or restricted areas.
- Water submersion or saltwater damage caused through own fault.
