Valid for travel from 11th February 2025

Summary of Rental Conditions

Summary of Terms and Conditions that form part of Travellers  AutoBarn full Rental Agreement. Rates quoted are in US dollars.

Once the Rental Agreement is signed at the depot, the Renter is responsible for the vehicle and any or all damage or loss Renter or others cause to the vehicle to the extent of the liability fee.

Branch Opening Hours

There are three depots Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

Vehicle Pick Up and Drop Off

Vehicle pick up times are between 9am and 4pm 

Vehicle Drop off times are between 9am and 3pm

No refunds will be granted for shortened rentals. There are no refunds for late pick up or early return of vehicles.

Rates Calculation

Rates are calculated as per night. Where a rental crosses into another season, the rate will split to allow for the new season rate.

Payments

Payment must be made in US dollars by Credit or Debit card; MasterCard or Visa. Note: A credit card is required for an imprint to the amount of the liability fee.

Cancellations & Amendments

In the case of canceling your reservation

• Loss of deposit paid if cancelling 15 or more days before pick up
• Loss of deposit plus $200 fee if cancelling within 14 days of pick up
• 50% plus $200 if cancelling within 7 days of pick up
• 100% if cancelling within 24 hours of pickup
• No refunds will be given for any booking amendments to the rental dates within 14 days of collection (if the length of hire is shortened) and the rental will be charged at the number of days originally booked

Amendments are charged at a rate of $50 per change. This applies but is not limited to changing the client name, vehicle type, reducing the number of rental days, changing the pickup dates or locations.

It is possible to extend a rental without incurring a fee subject to availability. It is possible to shorten a rental within 21 Days of pick up ($50 fee applies). Shortening a rental will be quoted as a new rental and will be calculated at the current rate with any current specials not applicable.

Please note that amendments may result in the daily rental rate to be recalculated at the rate applicable on the date of the amendment for the entire rental period.

Administration Fees / Taxes

State Sales Tax as follows -

• 10% - Los Angeles
• 8.15% - Las Vegas
• 10.75% - San Francisco

Exchange Rate / Currency Variations

All credit card transactions are conducted in US Dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. We do not accept any liability for variances up or down. Refunds by credit card can take up to 15 working days depending on the renters Financial Institution.

Any balance due for Vancouver bookings will be paid in CAD at the branch at the spot exchange rate at the time.

The full balance due for the Rental Period is payable upon pick up of the Vehicle. Payment can be made by cash, debit or credit card.

We will process refunds within 7 days after the completion of your rental (after we have performed a final audit). Your payment card issuer’s rules will apply to crediting your account for any excess, which may not be immediately released by your card issuer. 16.3

Travellers accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express, which will incur an additional non-refundable 3% payment administration fee on any transaction.  Travellers Autobarn is entitled to retain the Renter’s credit card details in accordance with the Payment Card Industry – Data Security Standard and applicable law and take any action necessary to recover from the Renter’s credit card for all Charges, including for, tolls, violations and all additional fees and charges described in this Agreement.  All charges are subject to our final audit. If errors are discovered after the close of this transaction, you authorize us to correct the Charges with the payment card issuer.

Rental Duration

The minimum rental period is 5 Days. There is no maximum rental period.

One Way rentals incur a higher minimum rental period subject to change.

One Way Rentals

One way rentals are available between all branches subject to minimum rental periods. A one way rental fee applies.

Drivers License and Minimum Age

All drivers must hold a valid drivers license for the entire rental period, plus have a major credit card. Only drivers specified on the contract are allowed to drive Travellers Autobarn vehicles. All specified drivers with their licenses must be present at time of vehicle pick up. If the drivers license is not in the English language then an International Drivers Permit (IDP) is also recommended. An accredited English translation will be accepted in lieu of an International Drivers Permit.

Drivers must be 21 years of age or over. Proof of age must be ascertained by a valid drivers license.

Additional Drivers

Extra drivers are $3/day (capped at 25 days $75)

Living Equipment

Additional to the rental price is a $45 fee, this is for all cooking and eating utensils, all bedding (duvets/comforter, sheets and pillows) .

All extras should be pre-booked to ensure availability

• GPS - US$7 per day (max $140)
• Booster Seats - US$45 per rental
• Living Equipment - US$45 per rental (compulsory with all vehicles)
• Solar Shower - US$30 per rental
• Heater - US$25 per rental
• Fan - US$25 per rental
• Snow Chains - US$50 per rental
• Extra Drivers - US$3/day (capped at US$75)
• Pre Paid Gas Option -US$35 per rental
• Living Equipment - $45 per rental

Rates include unlimited mileage 

Road Restrictions

You may drive the Vehicle only on: (a) paved roads; or (b) well-maintained access roads (less than 500 yards long) to recognized campgrounds and parking areas. To the fullest extent permitted by law, travel on unpaved roads may void insurance coverage, as well as any optional collision damage waiver or other protection that you purchase and you may be liable for the total cost of damage that is caused or contributed to by reason of travelling, or having travelled, on unpaved roads.

• Travellers Autobarn reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict Vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.
• All Travellers Autobarn vehicles are strictly prohibited from travelling to Mexico, there is no insurance coverage in Mexico
• Vehicles are not permitted in Death Valley between May 1st and September 30th
• Vehicles are not permitted at Burning Man. If we learn the vehicle has been to Burning Man you will be charged a $1000 “Burning Man supplementary fee”. The Burning Man supplementary fee covers inspection, cleaning, excessive wear & tear, devaluation of vehicle, and driving on unsealed roads.
• You must have our prior consent and pay an additional “Canada Entry Fee” of $750 before traveling to Canada. If you travel to Canada without our prior consent, we will charge you an additional fee of $1,500 to cover our additional costs incurred by your taking the Vehicle to Canada, including relocation of the Vehicle and excessive mileage costs. 
• Vehicles are not permitted to enter Alaska. 
• To the fullest extent permitted by law, failure to comply with the travel restrictions described here may void insurance coverage, as well as any optional collision damage waiver or other protection that you purchase.  See further T&Cs for additional information on your responsibility for damage to the Vehicle, insurance, collision damage waiver, and supplemental liability insurance.
• Unauthorized travel voids any liability reduction options and insurance coverage provided and renders the Hirer liable. The Hirer will also be responsible for all costs associated with the rental, including servicing, breakdown and recovery as well as loss of security bond.

Burning Man

Vehicles are not permitted at Burning Man.

Rental Extension

 If you wish to extend the rental while the Vehicle is on rent, you must first obtain written authorization from Travellers Autobarn’s Central Reservations. A casual conversation on the topic with a Travellers Autobarn staff branch member does not constitute authorization. A requested extension will be subject to availability and is not authorized until: (a) we have expressly approved and confirmed the new return date in writing; and (b) you have paid all fees related to the extension (including change fees and “relocation fees,” if applicable) in full. Please communicate all extension requests by calling Central Reservations via the 1-800-469-4790 Customer Assistance Line at the earliest possible opportunity as all requests are subject to availability.

Mechanical Repairs & Accidents

Travellers Autobarn Vehicles are maintained and serviced to a high standard, however this does not prevent the occasional mechanical malfunction. Minor repairs of a mechanical nature costing less than $100 may be affected without our authorisation and will be reimbursed upon completion of the rental if tax invoices are produced.

If you experience any problems, even minor, you must ring 1800 469 4790 Customer Assistance Line for further assistance and advice. For amounts over $100, Travellers Autobarn must be informed and our approval must be sought and obtained before undertaking repairs. We will usually approve repairs provided the Hirer was not directly responsible for the damage but reserve the right to approve or decline repairs on a case by case basis. Tax invoices must be submitted, or the claim will not be paid.

If the Vehicle is not able to be driven as a result of the defect or breakdown, Travellers Autobarn’s liability is limited to refunding You the hire fees (excluding any liability option reduction amount) for the time that the Vehicle was actually in repair or providing a replacement vehicle subject to availability. Travellers Autobarn may grant an extension to the rental period in lieu of providing a refund. Travellers Autobarn will not be responsible for the costs of alternative accommodation, travel costs (including travelling to the location named by Travellers Autobarn to collect any replacement vehicle), or food or any other cost or expense resulting from the breakdown, accident or repair of the Vehicle.

You acknowledge that if you do have an issue with your Vehicle, that when (Friday afternoons to Monday mornings & Public Holidays) and where (middle of nowhere?) you might have an issue are complicating factors that you have considered prior to choosing to rent a motor vehicle and you accept any delays caused that may arise from the lack of available parts or services and release Travellers Autobarn from any claims that may arise due to the timing or location of the issue. It is for this reason we urge all Hirers to be aware of what day of the week it is and be alert to any issues that may arise and have any issues looked at before the issue of timing and location becoming complicating factors.

Our responsibility to provide a rental extension or refund of hire fees is conditional on any problems associated with the Vehicle, including equipment failure, being reported to Travellers Autobarn as soon as possible and within 24hrs in order to give Travellers Autobarn the opportunity to rectify the problem.

Malfunctions of stereo systems, cabin lights, air-conditioning, fridges, microwaves, sink water pumps etc., are not considered mechanical breakdowns and downtime will not be paid.

Hirers Obligations

The Hirer is responsible to check, at least daily, and to maintain all fluid levels and immediately to rectify and report to Travellers Autobarn by calling the 1800 469 4790 Customer Assistance Line any defect of which you become aware, however slight. Topping up a Vehicle that is losing cooling liquid somehow is not rectifying the problem. Rectification means a fit and proper diagnosis and repair. Travellers Autobarn cannot stress enough your responsibility in this regard. Continued operation of the Vehicle after a defect has occurred may lead to serious consequential damage to the engine voids any liability reduction options and insurance coverage provided

The Hirer is responsible to check, at least daily the condition of the Vehicles tires including but not limited to tread depth, uneven wear and any visible damage, and must immediately report to Travellers Autobarn by calling the 1800 469 4790 Customer Assistance Line any defect of which you become aware of. Travellers Autobarn cannot stress enough your responsibility in this regard. Continued operation of the Vehicle after a defect has occurred may lead to serious injury or consequential damage to the Vehicle voids any liability reduction options and insurance coverage provided

We cannot stress enough the risks of continued driving if your car begins to overheat, or if it has a known cooling system problem of any kind. If your temperature gauge moves in a direction that is a departure from normal, stop immediately, investigate and call Travellers Autobarn on 1800 469 4790 Customer Assistance Line. Do NOT wait for it to cool and drive again as you may cause further catastrophic damage to your engine, for which you WILL be liable. Driving with an inoperative or malfunctioning temperature gauge may lead to consequential damage to the Vehicle voids any liability reduction options and insurance coverage provided

Travel Insurance

The highest level of Travel Insurance is strongly recommended to the renter.

Cleaning Fee

All Vehicles must be returned washed, vacuum, and uncluttered. Alternatively, you can elect to waive the requirement to return the vehicle washed, vacuumed, and uncluttered for a $100 “Cleaning Fee”, payable at anytime. Even if you pay the optional Cleaning Fee, if the Vehicle is returned excessively dirty or cluttered (as determined by Travellers Autobarn), an extra cleaning fee of at least $200 will apply.

Standard Liability

Insurance is not included in the cost of the rental. The hirer is responsible for any damage caused to the Travellers Autobarn Campervan.

Liability Reduction Options (LRO)

The Standard Liability can be reduced by purchasing one of the following Reduction Options:

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

$10 - $16 USD Security bond $0

Full coverage of the campervan. Collision Damage Waivers (CDW) means you are not responsible for damage to the campervan in the case of a collision (unless driven against the Terms & Conditions). CDW further includes replacement of two tyres and one front windscreen. A $0 security bond applies. Exclusions apply.

Supplementary Liability Insurance (SLI)

$13.99  USD Security bond $1500

SLI is optional protection that provides supplemental third-party liability insurance in an amount between state-required minimum financial responsibility limits and $500,000 for the Renter and any authorized driver. If you choose to accept SLI, you do so in accordance with the brochure, a copy of which you acknowledged has been received by you, and the master policy is available for review from the rental counter

Canada Fee

Any customer who would like to travel into Canada will need to pay a $750 USD Canada Location Fee.

Service Fee

A $5/day service fee - capped at $100 - will be introduced for all vehicle models from 1 August 2023

Full Responsibility

The renter is fully liable for any damage to the Travellers Autobarn campervan or third party property if:

• The terms of the rental contract are breached.
• Any person other than an Authorized Driver
• A person who is not licensed for that class of Vehicle;
• A person whose blood alcohol concentration exceeds the lawful percentage or is under the influence of prescription, non-prescription or illegal drugs or controlled substances;
• A person who has given or for whom you have given a false name, age, address or driver’s license details or other false or fraudulent information.
• A person using a hand-held wireless communication device or other device that is capable of receiving or transmitting telephonic communications, electronic data, mail or text messages while not in a hands-free mode.
• The Vehicle must not be used to carry persons for or property for hire
• The Vehicle must not be used to carry inflammable, explosive or corrosive materials
• The Vehicle must not be used to drive through any tunnel or area restricting propane tanks
• The Vehicle must not be used to propel or tow any vehicle, trailer, boat or other object, unless Travellers Autobarn has authorized such use in writing
• The Vehicle must not be used to carry any greater load and/or more persons than is lawful or use in a manner or for a purpose other than for which it was designed and constructed
• The Vehicle must not be used for driver training, racing, pace making, reliability trials, speed trials, hill climbing or being tested in preparation for those purposes
• The Vehicle must not be used in a dangerous, careless, willful, wanton or reckless manner
• The Vehicle must not be used in connection with any conduct that could properly be charged as a felony
• The Vehicle must not be used with contaminated fuel or fuel that does not meet the manufacturer’s specifications or recommendations
• The Vehicle must not be used by any person to lie or stand on the Vehicle roof, hood, or trunk
• The Vehicle must not be used outside of the United States and Canada
• The Renter acknowledges that Travellers Autobarn retains title to the Vehicle at all times. The Renter shall not agree, attempt, offer or purport to sell, assign, sublease, lend, pledge, mortgage, rent or otherwise part with or attempt to part with the personal possession of or otherwise deal with the Vehicle.
• Smoking or vaping in the Vehicle and/or use of candles or mosquito coils are also prohibited.
• Pets are not allowed in any vehicle. Renter is fully responsible for all damages and a minimum fee of $250.00 for cleaning/deodorizing applies.
